When Christian Dior debuted his infamous “New Look” collection in 1947 he fundamentally changed the direction of mid-century fashion, bringing the world a new vision of luxury from post-war Paris. Bustier bodices, bell-shaped skirts, rounded shoulders and cinched waists made Dior’s work the antithesis of Chanel’s, which elicited a fair share of controversy. Nonetheless, Dior took the world by storm, never producing an unpopular collection during his tenure.
Christian said, “Happiness is the secret to all beauty. There is no beauty without happiness.”
